Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with emphysema (damaged air sacs in the lungs) based on scans and symptoms.
  • You have not smoked for at least 4 months before joining the study.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is under 35, meaning you are not severely obese.
  • Your breathing medicine routine has been steady and working well for you.
  • Your lung function test (FEV1) shows severe damage, between 15% and 45% of what is normal for your age and height.
  • You have very little air trapped in your lungs (residual volume less than 175% of normal) and no extra air channels in the treated area.
