Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with acute cholecystitis caused by gallstones (using the Tokyo Guidelines criteria).
  • You are scheduled to have your gallbladder removed during this hospital stay (even if surgery starts open or switches from laparoscopic to open).
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are willing to sign a consent form and follow all study procedures.
  • You have not had pancreatitis with this episode, or your symptoms did not start more than 10 days before surgery.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
