Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 65 years old and have a confirmed diagnosis of bronchiectasis with a severity score of 0–8, OR you are a healthy volunteer.
- If you have bronchiectasis and carry Pseudomonas in your lungs, you must have had it confirmed on two tests at least 3 months apart within the last 2 years.
- You are not a current smoker and have not smoked in the past year. If you were a former smoker, your total smoking history is less than 5 pack-years (roughly one pack a day for 5 years).
- You do not have antibodies to the specific cold virus (RV-A16) used in the study — this will be tested.
- You are not in close contact with infants or elderly people at home or work.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Your bronchiectasis is not due to cystic fibrosis, a primary immune problem, primary ciliary dyskinesia, or allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.
- You do not have another major lung disease (like interstitial lung disease) that could affect the study.
- Your lung function (FEV1) is 50% or more of the predicted value.
- You have not taken antibiotics for a flare-up in the last 6 weeks, or preventive antibiotics in the last 4 weeks.
- You have not used any corticosteroids (inhaled, nasal, or by mouth) in the last 4 weeks.
