Who can take part

  • You are married and visiting a health clinic for birth control advice.
  • You are between 18 and 45 years old.
  • You have chosen the LNG-IUS (a hormone-releasing IUD) for birth control.
  • You have had any number of children, including none.
  • You do not have inherited blood disorders like thalassemia or sickle cell disease.
  • You do not have severe iron deficiency anemia needing immediate treatment.
  • You do not have conditions that prevent IUD insertion, like pelvic infection or cervical cancer.
  • You do not have uterine abnormalities such as a septate uterus or fibroids that distort the cavity.
  • You are not within 6 months of giving birth.
