- You are 40 years of age or older and in good health overall.
- You have never had shingles (zoster) or received any shingles or chickenpox vaccine.
- You do not have a fever (temperature under 99°F or 37.1°C) on the day you receive the vaccine.
- You are not taking long-term medications that weaken the immune system (like high-dose steroids for 14+ days in the past 6 months).
- You have not received any other vaccine in the last 30 days, and will not get one for 30 days after the study vaccine.
