  • You are scheduled for surgery that needs a breathing tube.
  • Your doctor expects it may be difficult to place the tube (difficult airway).
  • Your doctor plans to use a thin, flexible scope to place the tube while you are awake (awake fiberoptic intubation).
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are able to give your consent to participate.
