Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You are scheduled to have open liver surgery (hepatectomy) for a benign or malignant liver tumor.
  • You have a physical status of ASA I, II, or III (meaning you are generally healthy or have well-controlled health issues).
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder that would make a nerve block unsafe.
  • You are not allergic to local anesthetics like lidocaine or bupivacaine.
