Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are scheduled for heart valve surgery or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) — a surgery to improve blood flow to your heart.
- You are not having surgery on the aorta (the main artery from the heart).
- You are not having a special procedure called a MAZE procedure (to treat atrial fibrillation during surgery).
- You do not need a machine to help your heart pump before surgery.
- You have not died during surgery or within the first 3 days afterward.
