PEMF therapy vs. leg compression for blood clot prevention in ICU

Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older and currently in the intensive care unit (ICU).
  • You are at high risk for blood clots (based on a standard scoring system).
  • You cannot take blood-thinning medication, or you need both medication and a mechanical device to prevent blood clots.
  • You do not have leg injuries, burns, fractures, or other problems that would prevent using a mechanical compression device.
  • You are expected to live more than 24 hours.
