- You are 65 years of age or older
- You are scheduled for an elective total hip replacement on one side (not both at once)
- You are in good general health (mild or no other diseases)
- Your body mass index (BMI) is between 20 and 35
- You do not have allergies to numbing medicines or opioids
- You do not have bleeding problems, skin infections at the injection site, or nerve damage
