Who can take part
- Your overall health status should be rated as ASA I, II, or III (a standard classification of physical condition).
- Your body mass index (BMI) must be between 18 and 28.
- You must be scheduled for elective (non-emergency) abdominal surgery under general anesthesia that will last 1 to 4 hours.
- You should not have had septic shock or multiple organ failure in the last 14 days.
- You should not have had a stroke, unstable angina, or heart attack in the last 3 months, and you must not have uncontrolled diabetes or certain diabetic complications.
