This study tests if people with fibromyalgia can learn to control their own brain activity using real-time feedback from an MRI machine to reduce pain. It is designed to help those with long-term chronic pain find new ways to manage it.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You have had fibromyalgia for at least one year, based on specific research guidelines.
  • Your average pain level is 4 out of 10 or higher, and you have pain on at least half the days.
  • You have been on the same pain medications (or other treatments) for a while and agree not to change them during the study.
  • You are able to read and speak English well enough to give consent.
  • You do not have any metal implants or other reasons that would make an MRI unsafe.
  • You do not have any other pain condition that is worse than your fibromyalgia.
  • You are not pregnant or nursing.
  • You do not have a history of psychosis or severe anxiety that would interfere with an MRI.
  • You do not use narcotic pain medicines or illegal drugs regularly.
  • You are not currently in another research study for pain.
  • You do not have any other major health issues that would make it hard to complete the study.
