This study tests if a nerve block called a serratus anterior plane block (a type of numbing injection) can help manage pain from broken ribs. It is for people coming to the ER with at least 2 broken ribs on one side, who will likely be admitted to the hospital.

Who can take part
- You are 18 or older
- You came to the ER within 24 hours of your injury
- You have at least 2 broken ribs on the same side, and the breaks are in the front or side of your chest (not the back)
- A doctor expects you will need to stay in the hospital for treatment
- You can give permission (consent) or have someone who can decide for you
- You are not allergic to the numbing medicine, not pregnant, not in custody, and don't have other severe distracting injuries
