Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are having a catheter placed in the doctor's office (not in the hospital).
  • You have not had a catheter placed for any reason in the last 4 weeks.
  • You do not have a history of recurrent urinary tract infections (2 or more in 6 months or 3 in 12 months).
  • You do not have a positive nitrite test on your urine sample (a sign of infection).
  • You are not allergic to iodine or Betadine.
  • You are not in your second or third trimester of pregnancy.
  • You can speak and understand English and can give your own consent.
