Cataract surgery for epiretinal membrane: Vivity vs. monofocal lens
Part of Eyes & vision clinical trials.
This study compares two types of artificial lenses (Vivity and monofocal) used in combined cataract and retinal surgery for people with an epiretinal membrane, a thin layer of scar tissue on the retina that can blur vision. It aims to see which lens gives better vision outcomes.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You are an adult with a visually significant epiretinal membrane (scar tissue on the retina that affects your vision).
- You are scheduled to have or have already had a vitrectomy (surgery to remove the jelly inside the eye) and membrane peel combined with cataract surgery.
- The lens power needed is between +6 and +30 diopters, with astigmatism correction up to T6.
- You have not had any previous eye surgery or laser vision correction.
- You do not have other eye diseases like severe dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, or diabetic retinopathy.
- You have no irregular astigmatism, corneal disease, pupil problems, or loose lens supports, and you had no serious complications during surgery.

This study compares five different advanced lenses (that give a range of focus) with a standard single-focus lens for cataract surgery. It aims to see which lens provides the best overall vision.
This trial compares two types of multifocal lens implants (Clareon PanOptix vs. AcrySof PanOptix) to see which provides better contrast sensitivity. If you need cataract surgery and qualify for a multifocal lens that corrects both near and distance vision, this study may help you learn which option could work best for you.
This trial compares two types of artificial lenses (EDOF and monofocal) to see which gives better vision after cataract surgery combined with removal of an epiretinal membrane, a thin layer of scar tissue on the retina. The study aims to find which lens may improve how clearly you see at different distances.
This study looks at how well a type of artificial lens (Clareon Vivity) works for people who have had laser eye surgery in the past and now need cataract surgery. It aims to see if this lens gives good vision without glasses.
This study compares two types of advanced artificial lens implants used during cataract surgery. It looks at how well people see after getting one type of lens in one eye and the other type in the other eye, compared to getting the same type in both eyes.
This study compares two types of advanced lens implants (Alcon Vivity Toric and RxSight LAL+) for people with cataracts and astigmatism. The goal is to see which lens gives better vision after surgery.
