Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
  • You must have been on a breathing machine for no more than 5 days.
  • You must have ARDS (a serious lung condition) as defined by standard criteria.
  • Your ventilator settings must meet specific safety limits for pressure and oxygen.
  • You must not have already received prone positioning or ECMO during this ICU stay.
  • You must not have certain spine, brain, or circulation problems that would make prone positioning unsafe.
