Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must be in the ICU or a step-down unit for a severe abdominal infection that needed urgent surgery.
  • You must have at least one risk factor for fungal infection in the abdomen, such as recent surgery, a perforated bowel, or being on strong antibiotics before surgery.
  • You must not have a planned surgery without an incision (drainage with a needle) for your infection.
  • You must not have a severe case of pancreatitis that is infected.
  • You must not be in a situation where life-sustaining treatments are being stopped or withdrawn.
