Magnesium for advanced lung cancer

Metastatic NSCLC - Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Who can take part

  • You must have advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that is stage III (unresectable) or stage IV (metastatic) and cannot be cured with surgery or chemoradiotherapy alone.
  • You must be about to start your first systemic treatment for metastatic disease, which will be a carboplatin-based chemotherapy combined with an immunotherapy (PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitor).
  • You must not have certain gene changes in your tumor (like EGFR, ALK, ROS1, etc.) that would allow a different targeted therapy.
  • You must be at least 18 years old and have a good performance status (ECOG 0 or 1), meaning you are fully active or only limited in physically strenuous activity.
  • Your kidney function must be adequate (eGFR at least 45), and you must not have very low or very high magnesium levels in your blood.
  • You cannot have used oral or intravenous magnesium in the 14 days before enrollment, and must be willing to stop any magnesium supplements (including over-the-counter) during the trial.
