Predicting severe jaundice in newborns

Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia

This trial tests a scoring tool called BIND to see how well it predicts which newborns with severe jaundice need intensive treatment. If you have a baby under 28 days old with severe jaundice that might need a blood transfusion, this study could apply to them.

  • Your baby is less than 28 days old
  • Your baby has severe jaundice that needs very strong light therapy or might need a blood exchange transfusion
  • Your baby does not have any abnormal brain or nerve signs from other illnesses (like lack of oxygen at birth or muscle problems)
