This study is looking at how well a special model can predict which patients arriving at the emergency room with a severe infection (sepsis) might have a multidrug-resistant (hard-to-treat) infection. By looking at your medical records from your visit, researchers hope to improve treatment decisions and help people like you get the right antibiotics sooner.

Who can take part

  • You were 18 years or older when you came to the emergency room.
  • You were seen at the Adult Emergency Department of Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires during one of these periods: January 1, 2017 – March 20, 2020, or May 1, 2022 – August 10, 2025.
  • You had sepsis or septic shock when you first arrived, and you stayed in the hospital for at least 48 hours.
  • Bacterial cultures (tests to find the bacteria causing your infection) were done during your first evaluation.
  • You started taking antibiotics within the first 48 hours of being in the hospital.
  • You were not diagnosed with COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2 infection) during the first 72 hours of your hospital stay.
