Who can take part
- You are between 20 and 79 years old.
- You have a single lung tumor that is 2-3 cm in size and is mostly solid (more than half of it is solid on a CT scan).
- You have not had chemotherapy or radiation for any cancer, or if you have, it was more than 5 years ago (hormone therapy is okay).
- Your lungs are healthy enough for either surgery (tested with a breathing test).
- During surgery, a frozen section shows the tumor is a common type of lung cancer (not the most aggressive kind), and the surgeon can safely remove either a segment or a lobe.
