Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You have a stone at least 5mm in size that is blocking one ureter (tube from kidney to bladder)
  • The blockage has caused your kidney function to get worse recently (creatinine between 1.3 and 5 mg/dL)
  • You have not already had a temporary tube (stent or nephrostomy) placed for this blockage
  • You do not have any serious bleeding disorder, active infection in the urine, severe heart or lung problems, or other medical emergencies
  • You do not have stones in both ureters or a pre-existing narrowing in the ureter below the stone
