Emotion-Focused Therapy for Prolonged Grief

Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD)

This study tests whether a type of talk therapy called Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) helps people with deep, long-lasting grief after losing a loved one. You'll learn to process your feelings and find ways to live with the loss.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • Your loved one died at least 6 months ago.
  • You feel intense grief that hasn't gotten better and fits a diagnosis of Prolonged Grief Disorder (score 30+ on a grief questionnaire).
  • You are not currently in any other counseling or therapy.
  • If you take medication for your mood, it must be stable for 6 weeks and your doctor must agree it's okay to continue while in the study.
  • You do not have substance abuse, an eating disorder, psychosis, memory problems, or thoughts of hurting yourself or others.
