This study compares two ways to manage pain after a leg injury: a single injection of a long-lasting numbing medicine (Exparel) versus a small tube that delivers numbing medicine for a few days (catheter). It is for people who have not used strong painkillers before and have a closed leg fracture.

Who can take part

  • You have a closed injury to your leg or foot (no broken skin or open wound).
  • You have never taken strong prescription painkillers (like oxycodone or morphine) before this injury.
  • You are not allergic to numbing medicines like lidocaine.
  • You do not have any other serious injuries besides your leg.
  • You weigh at least 60 kg (about 132 pounds).
