Alendronate to prevent pelvic fractures in cervical cancer patients

This study tests whether a medicine called alendronate can help prevent pelvic bone fractures in women with cervical cancer who are getting chemo-radiation. If you qualify, you may receive the study drug to strengthen your bones during treatment.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have cervical cancer (stage IB2 to IVA) that has not spread to other organs.
  • You are scheduled to receive chemotherapy and radiation therapy (chemo-radiation).
  • You have never had osteoporosis or taken bone medications like bisphosphonates.
  • A recent scan (within the last 3 months) shows no cancer in your bones.
  • You can sit or stand upright for at least 30 minutes (to take the study pill safely).
