How muscles work together during pain and when expecting pain

PainNocebo EffectPain Anticipation

This study looks at how your muscles coordinate when you're in pain or just expecting it. Healthy volunteers will be asked to walk or run while researchers measure muscle activity and test a cream's effect.

Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be generally healthy with no nerve, muscle, bone, or heart problems
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) under 30
  • Be able to walk without help for at least 10 minutes
  • Not have any pain on the day of the test
  • Avoid painkillers for 6 hours, smoking for 6 hours, and caffeine for 2 hours before the study
