Who can take part

  • No history of depression, bipolar disorder, or other psychiatric conditions
  • No seizures in the past 10 years or other major brain conditions
  • No chronic pain or acute pain in the last three months
  • No migraines (15 or more headache days per month)
  • No medications for brain or nerve conditions
  • No substance abuse in the last six months
  • No metal implants or conditions that prevent MRI or brain stimulation
  • No heart disease, high blood pressure, severe asthma, diabetes, or other pain-related conditions
  • Must be able to read and speak English fluently
  • Must be able to tolerate a hot sensation (like a hot cup of coffee) on the skin
