Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for a major abdominal surgery (like removing part of the stomach, colon, liver, bladder, uterus, kidney, or pancreas).
  • You are generally healthy or have mild to moderate health problems (classified as ASA I, II, or III).
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder, infection at the injection site, or severe obesity.
  • You are not pregnant, not allergic to numbing medicines, and do not take strong painkillers regularly.
