  • You are scheduled for surgery that will use general anesthesia and a breathing tube.
  • You do not have a speech or pronunciation disorder (like vocal cord problems, cleft palate, or facial deformities).
  • You do not have hearing loss that makes communication difficult.
  • You do not have a brain or nervous system condition that affects your speech.
  • Your doctor has not said you cannot have a standard breathing tube placed (for example, due to certain health conditions).
