- You are 18 years or older
- You are having planned (not emergency) surgery that requires general anesthesia
- Your surgery requires a breathing tube to be placed in your windpipe
- You do not have known upper airway problems like tumors, infections, or recent trauma
- You have not had head or neck surgery before, or have no significant deformities affecting your airway
- You can open your mouth at least 3 centimeters and have no severe neck spine restrictions
