Tourniquet Release Methods for People with High Blood Pressure

This study tests two ways of releasing a tourniquet (a pressure cuff) after arm surgery to see which keeps blood pressure more stable in people with controlled high blood pressure. If you are having arm or hand surgery with a tourniquet, you may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • You have high blood pressure that is under control with medication for at least 3 months.
  • You are having surgery on your arm, forearm, or hand that will use a tourniquet (a tight band to reduce bleeding) for at least 30 minutes.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18.5 and 29.9.
  • Your overall health is classified as ASA I or II by your doctor (meaning mild or no other diseases).
  • You do not have any conditions that would make tourniquet use risky (such as blood vessel problems or infection).
