N-acetylcysteine for airway clearance in bronchiectasis

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have been diagnosed with bronchiectasis (damaged, widened airways in the lungs).
  • You are currently in the hospital because your bronchiectasis suddenly got worse (called an acute exacerbation).
  • You do not currently smoke.
  • You are not allergic to N-acetylcysteine (a medicine that helps thin mucus).
  • If you are female, you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You do not have COPD or asthma as your main lung condition.
