  • You are being treated in the emergency department
  • Your blood potassium level is 5.5 or higher
  • You had a standard 12-lead ECG within 1 hour of that potassium test
  • You have not received any potassium-lowering treatment before this blood test
  • Your doctors plan to start potassium-lowering treatment within 4 hours of the blood test
