Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You must be on a breathing machine (ventilator) for at least 48 hours.
  • You must have been getting liquid nutrition through a tube from your nose or mouth to your stomach for at least the last 48 hours.
  • You must not have had major stomach surgery (like gastric bypass or removal).
  • You cannot be pregnant.
  • You cannot be getting nutrition through a tube placed directly into your stomach or small intestine (like a G-tube or J-tube).
