  • You are an adult (age 18 or older)
  • You have been on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation) for at least 48 hours
  • You are covered by national health insurance
  • You have not had swallowing problems diagnosed before
  • Your swallowing risk is not caused by a nerve/muscle illness like stroke or ALS
