Who can take part

  • You must be 65 years or older
  • You must have a sepsis diagnosis according to standard definitions
  • You will be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU)
  • Your kidney function must be normal or only mildly reduced at the time of ICU admission
  • Your uric acid, albumin, and lactate levels will be measured when you arrive at the ICU
  • You must stay in the ICU for at least 24 hours
