Fructose and belly pain study for IBS

This study looks at how fructose (a sugar) might cause belly pain in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). You will have a breath test to check how your body absorbs fructose and a barostat test to measure your gut sensitivity.

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with IBS using current medical criteria (Rome IV).
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You have had a fructose breath test and a barostat test in our department in the last 10 years.
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or using antibiotics in the past month.
  • You do not have other digestive diseases like Crohn's, colitis, or celiac disease.
