Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- Your health status is classified as ASA I, II, or III (generally healthy to moderate risk).
- You are scheduled for planned (not emergency) chest surgery where one lung will be ventilated for at least 1 hour.
- You can have a blood sample taken from an artery during surgery and continuous oxygen monitoring.
- You have not had previous chest surgery.
- Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 40, and you do not have severe chronic lung or heart disease.
