Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are having planned (not emergency) chest surgery where one lung needs to be temporarily deflated for at least 30 minutes.
  • You do not have severe lung disease (such as advanced COPD, tuberculosis, or other serious lung problems).
  • You do not have a serious heart condition (like a recent heart attack or a very weak heart pump).
  • You are not severely obese (BMI less than 35).
  • You are willing and able to give written permission to participate.
