Brain stimulation combined with Nordic walking for Parkinson's

This study combines a mild electrical brain stimulation (tDCS) with Nordic walking (walking with poles) to see if it helps improve walking and balance in people with Parkinson's disease. The treatment lasts 4 weeks and may be an option if you have a slow walking pace and no implanted brain devices.

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (the most common type).
  • Your Parkinson's is at a moderate stage (Hoehn & Yahr stages II–IV when you're on your usual medication).
  • You have been on the same Parkinson's medications for at least 4 weeks before starting the study, and you're willing to stay on them during the 4-week study.
  • You walk slowly – for example, taking 6 seconds or more to walk 10 meters at your usual pace.
  • You can walk at least 10 meters on your own (you may use a cane or walking poles, but you don't need another person's help).
  • You do not have any of the following: a brain implant like deep brain stimulation, metal in your skull, uncontrolled seizures, or active skin problems on your scalp.
