Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You have bone loss in your lower leg or thigh that needs reconstructive surgery.
  • The bone loss is caused by a condition like a tumor, a fracture that won't heal, a recent injury, or an infection.
  • Your surgeon plans to use either a 'transport nail' (a metal rod that moves bone slowly) or the 'Masquelet technique' (a staged bone graft procedure).
  • You do not have other serious medical conditions that would make surgery unsafe.
