Who can take part

  • You are 18 years of age or older.
  • You are in the intensive care unit (ICU) with a breathing tube (intubated) and on a ventilator.
  • Your breathing tube uses a passive humidifier (called a Heat and Moisture Exchanger or HME filter).
  • Your PEEP (a ventilator setting) is set less than 12 cmH2O.
  • You are not receiving inhaled nitric oxide therapy.
  • You do not have a tracheostomy.
