Who can take part
- You have a planned (non-emergency) repair of an infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm or a penetrating aortic ulcer in your lower belly's main artery.
- You live in the Bologna area or can stay nearby for a full week after the procedure.
- You have someone who can live with you and care for you at home after you leave the hospital.
- You agree to have the procedure with local or regional anesthesia (so you stay awake but feel no pain) and follow a fast-track program.
- Your femoral arteries (in your groin) must be wide enough (over 7 mm) and mostly free of calcium so a closure device can be used.
- Your aneurysm's 'neck' (the healthy section above the aneurysm) is long enough (over 15 mm), not too wide (under 30 mm), and not too angled or filled with blood clot.
