Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for elective (planned) lung surgery using a small camera (VATS technique).
  • Your health status is classified as ASA I, II, or III (generally healthy to mild to moderate illness).
  • You will likely use a patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pump to manage your pain after surgery.
  • You are not regularly taking opioid pain medicine or other strong pain medications for a chronic condition.
  • You do not have severe kidney or liver problems, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are not allergic to any of the study medicines (buprenorphine or oxycodone).
