It is for women who have had or are planning to have certain types of mastectomies because of breast cancer, DCIS (a very early form of breast cancer), or a strong family history of breast cancer.

Who can take part
- You are a woman aged 18 or older.
- You have been diagnosed with breast cancer and received chemotherapy before surgery, OR you have been diagnosed with DCIS without chemotherapy, OR you have a strong family history of breast cancer (confirmed by genetic counseling).
- You are planning to have one or both breasts removed with a type of mastectomy that saves the nipple (NSME or SSME), and will get a tissue expander placed at the same time.
- You are able to understand and speak German well enough to fully understand the study information.
- If you need radiation therapy after surgery, it must be part of your breast cancer treatment plan.
- If you could become pregnant, you must have a negative pregnancy test and not be breastfeeding.
