New imaging to find parathyroid tumors before surgery

Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 100 years old.
  • You are willing to have your parathyroid surgery at the NIH Clinical Center.
  • You have been diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism (sporadic or inherited), or parathyroid cancer, or are suspected to have it.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are not allergic to the 18F-Fluorocholine tracer used in the scan.
  • If you could become pregnant, you agree to use effective birth control for at least two weeks before the scan until after surgery.
