Who can take part
- You must be 18 years old or older
- You must be having elective laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass (not an emergency)
- You must have an ASA physical status of I, II, or III (meaning you are in generally good health or have mild to moderate health problems)
- You cannot have severe lung disease like COPD or asthma that requires daily treatment
- You cannot have kidney failure or a condition where your blood is too acidic (metabolic acidosis)
- You cannot have had major problems during surgery (like heavy bleeding or needing to switch to open surgery)
