Who can take part

  • Confirmed CMV infection in urine, blood, or fluid within 3 weeks after birth
  • Moderate or severe symptoms from CMV affecting the brain or multiple body systems
  • Baby must be enrolled by 30 days old
  • Parent or guardian must give written permission
  • Baby must be born at 32 weeks or later
  • Baby must weigh at least 1.8 kg (about 4 pounds) at birth
