Energy needs check for smallest children in the ICU

This study measures energy use in newborns and infants in the intensive care unit (PICU) who weigh between 0.5 and 10 kilograms (about 1 to 22 pounds). Who can take part

  • Your baby must be a newborn or infant in the PICU
  • Your baby must weigh between 0.5 and 10 kilograms (about 1 to 22 pounds)
  • If your baby is on a breathing machine: the oxygen setting must be below 70%, the peak pressure below 30 cmH2O, and no air leaks in the system
  • If your baby is breathing on their own: they must be okay with wearing a clear plastic canopy over their head for the measurement
