Who can take part

  • You are pregnant with one baby (not twins or more) and are scheduled for a planned cesarean section.
  • You are between 20 and 35 years old.
  • You are in generally good health (with mild to moderate health issues that are well-controlled, like mild asthma or diabetes).
  • You do not have serious heart or liver problems, kidney disease that requires dialysis, or a history of alcohol or drug addiction.
  • You have no medical reasons that would prevent you from getting spinal anesthesia (like an infection near the injection site or bleeding issues).
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form saying you understand the study and agree to join.
